Eating Vegan at Oka Chelsea

Before becoming vegan, I’d been to Oka, Primrose Hill and loved the chilled out atmosphere and great sushi/Japanese food. So I was excited to go back and try some of the vegan options.

Oka Chelsea is situated down Kings Road, near the Ivy Cafe, and a lovely 15 minute walk from Sloane Square tube station. The atmosphere inside is chilled and down to earth – the music is surprisingly modern – Maroon 5 even came on at one point! And the service was great – it was easy enough to catch the server’s eye, but they definitely didn’t hover.

I ordered the Avocado Hosomaki with a side of Stir Fried Greens with Chilli and Garlic. The Avocado rolls were lovely and fresh – but it was actually the Stir Fried Greens that surprised me; the garlic was a fantastic addition to the flavour, and they were easily the best part of the meal!

One tip if you are vegan or have allergies – the sushi from your table’s order all arrive on the same tray, so if you’re with a non-vegan friend like I was (who had the Tuna Hosomaki and Prawn Nigiri), and are strict with what your food touches / have allergies, then it might be worth asking for them to be served separately!

As you can see, I couldn’t wait for taking a photo before tucking into the Greens!

I had a great time at Oka, Chelsea, and would definitely recommend it! They also take bookings, so be sure to book a table soon!
