Eating Vegan at The Gate, Islington

Last weekend, I decided it was time to try my first fully vegetarian restaurant. So I went along to The Gate, Islington for lunch with my friend Shannen.

The restaurant is just down (about a 5 minute walk) from Angel tube station, and has a lovely peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. We went on a scorching Saturday afternoon, and it was a great respite from the heat.

I’d already studied the menu online (and when I say I studied, I mean I looked at the menu for at least 20 minutes the night before, salivating over the delicious sounding food!), and knew there were so many options to choose from, but I decided to go with the Tortillas. I definitely wasn’t disappointed! As you can see from the photos below, the food is presented beautifully, with creative garnishing. The tortillas were just the right amount of food and had amazing flavouring, with the bed of guacamole complimenting the tortilla bean filling perfectly.

Shannen had the Green dragon salad (photo below), which looked equally as delicious, and is definitely on my to-try list when I come back for another visit.

My verdict:

Overall, a great introduction to vegetarian restaurants, and I’d 100% recommend trying The Gate. Their website is thegaterestaurants.com, and you can book online (yay!).
